Mkaka Construction, a building and civil engineering company, has donated K0.5 million to Malawi Institute of Engineers (MIE) towards the latter’s conference this weekend.

Speaking when he handed over the cheque to MIE at a function in Blantyre on Friday, the company’s finance manager Gospel Mavutula said that by its nature, the construction company needs professional engineers hence the donation.

“These engineers are trained by institutions like MIE, so if we fund them, it is an investment on our part,” Mavutula said.

He said it is high time Malawians stopped leaving everything for foreign investors and appealed to local companies to help professional initiatives with the little they have.

Chairman of fundraising and finance committee for the MIE conference Francis Gondwe hailed the company for the donation.

The meeting, whose theme is ‘professional engineering driving infrastructural development’, will take place at Sun ‘n’ Sand Holiday Resort in Mangochi starting from 30th September to 1st October.
